Entry for September 26, 2007

I'm a little slow with the updating but here it is. Christian got to come home from the hospital on Sunday. He is doing amazing, as always. His surgery went fairly well with only a few hiccups. After surgery, he scared us a few times and lost quite a bit of blood. I still haven't heard the final count but we are thinking he recieved about 20 units of blood products the first 24 hours after surgery. He had some problems with blood building up inside the right chest cavity that caused his right lung to partially collapse and then he had air pockets on the left side with collapsed the left lung at the same time. They had to put another drain tube in his chest to relieve all the pressure and by Friday morning he was ready to leave ICU and go to the surgical ward. Saturday was a day for visitors and he was so happy to see some friends and go outside for a while. That was all it took for him to be ready to come home. On Sunday morning he got the last of the IV's removed and had an echo and X-ray and then we were on the drive home. As long as he is dressed, you can't even tell that the boy just had open-heart surgery. That's my little guy for ya! He has a donor valve from a ten year old and the doctors think he has atleast ten years before he will need another replacement. We are so happy and relieved! Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes!
